"Chess 960 is healthy and good for your chess. If you dive into it and don't just move the pieces to achieve known positions, it really improves your chess vision."
Levon Aronian, Grandmaster and World No. 2 in 2012 -
"I love chess, and I didn't invent Fischer Random Chess to destroy chess. I invented Chess 960 so that chess could continue to exist. [...] I want to preserve the old flavor of chess. I want to keep the old chess game. But by making a change so that the starting positions are mixed, to prevent it from degenerating into memorization and pre-arrangement, as it happens today."
Bobby Fischer, Inventor of Chess 960, Grandmaster, 11th World Chess Champion -
"This variant is a major challenge because you have to think from the very first second. Moreover, no one can blatantly play for a draw, as in regular chess. It is also very demanding physically, which leads to fatigue and, in turn, to mistakes. But it is also very fun, and I predict a great future for it."
Magnus Carlsen, Current World No. 1 in Chess, 5-time World Champion
